Seven Smoothies

Notes

+You barely taste kale, spinach and carrots when paired with the right fruits- I've found bananas, strawberries and pineapple help hide the taste of veggies if you're trying to. If I couldn't see the green color of spinach in the green smoothie, I probably wouldn't have known it was in there.

+Chai seeds: great source of fiber and Omega-3s. Helps strengthen teeth and bones. Hard to taste when emulsified in a blender. Thumbs up.

+Having a daily smoothie has really helped with my digestion during pregnancy.

+Vita Coco coconut water makes a great base -it gives you tons of vitamins (230% Vitamin C) plus 19% of your daily potassium.

+I love these stainless steel straws! They come clean and sanitize easily with soap and hot water and are dishwasher safe. I've had mine for four years now.

+We have the Vitamix blender and we love it!

Do you have any good smoothies you recommend? Hope you had a nice weekend!

  2. Beautiful smoothies Devon, thanks for the inspiration :)
My favourite smoothie of the moment is a green one made of coconut water, baby spinach, 1 pear, 1 kiwi, fresh ginger, hemp seeds and wheatgrass powder - enjoy!

    1. Yum! I haven't made one with Kiwi before. Those fruit combos sound so refreshing. I'll have to try this one. Thank you Blandine!

  3. Delicious. I haven't used my juicer for a while but I should. I have quite a lot of smoothies in the summer when I have berries in the garden. Raspberries, strawberries, blueberries or blackcurrants with a banana and some soya milk. I don't know if they'd grow where you are, but a blueberry planted in a pot is a wonderful thing, I get fruit over quite a long period, and they're so nice when they're really fresh. I hope you have a good week Devon. CJ xx

    1. I'm going to look into the odds of a potted blueberry plant growing well here in San Diego. I love the idea of it! Thanks for the tip!

  4. Isn't the Vitamix amazing?! I loove mine. Also, how long do you let the chia seeds soak? When I do it, they always seem hard or chewy.

    1. The times I've put the chai seeds in water or juice, I hate their texture. But with the smoothies, I've actually never soaked them. I just throw them in with the other ingredients and then turn the Vitamix from Variable to High and let it blend for about a minute. I never really notice the seeds when I do that because they get pretty chopped up.

  6. Yes!! Smoothies are my main obsession lately. I love strawberries, banana, pineapple, spinach (or kale), and some milk or chocolate almond milk. I usually drink it with whole grain toast and peanut butter, but if I'm having it alone I throw in some Greek yogurt. Long live the smoothie. Now I need to check out these stainless steel straws...
