Kari's Story on Starting an Etsy Shop and Taking Risks + a Giveaway

Kari is here today to tell you a little bit about her handmade shop based in Kansas. I love how she takes risks trying things she's afraid of to bring more color to her life.

Hello!  I'm Kari from This, too, a blog about finding the adventure in even ordinary moments.

Before the blog, though, there was This, my handmade jewelry shop, which I started to bring some color back into my life.

I'm sure you all can agree that life is hard sometimes. It isn't always the rainbows and cotton candy dream we thought it would be as kids, but it is still full of magic and beauty that I felt I wasn't fully taking advantage of or appreciating. I had stopped taking risks and challenging myself to see what was possible. So in an effort to take leaps, fall, and get back up again, I ventured into making headbands and necklaces and signed up for my first craft fair about 4 years ago.

I was making the things I often dreamt about doing, but couldn't find the courage, a reality.  One of the biggest lessons I kept learning over and over again was that things worth doing can't be accomplished overnight and take patience. For example, I spent almost 10 months working on a new line of beaded headbands. It was a lot of trial and error and there were definitely times when I questioned if I could actually make a decent beaded headband, but now I have a product that I'm really proud of. You can read more about the evolution of an idea here

After opening my Etsy shop, I thought, "Well, what's next?"   I thought about what else I was afraid/wished I could do, and then blogging came to mind.  I was reading blogs every day, but thought that I could never start a blog.  People would think my life is boring/wouldn't like what I had to say/wouldn't like me, etc.  One day, though, I told myself, "It's time to start doing".  It's time to take that chance, that risk I dared not make, because life is too short. Failing would not be as bad as looking back years from now and realizing I never even tried.

So I started my blog, and it has been an amazingly wonderful experience. I have met so many inspiring friends (in fact Devon was my first blogging friend) and learned things about myself I never would have had I not tried. It's also made me realize even more so that life is full of small, seemingly ordinary moments that add up to this beautiful adventure we're on.

So now that you know a little background about me, I'm excited to be partnering up with Devon for a giveaway!  One lucky reader (sorry, contiguous U.S. residents only) will receive their choice of either a necklace and bobby pin set OR rosette headband set and bobby pin set. And, you get to pick which ones you want from the shop.  Here are a few examples!
