The Joy & Misery

because isn't there always both?

“What is joy without sorrow? What is success without failure? What is a win without a loss? What is health without illness? You have to experience each if you are to appreciate the other. There is always going to be suffering. It’s how you look at your suffering, how you deal with it, that will define you.”
― Mark Twain
(I was debating putting this in here. I didn't want to sound preachy or anything, but it's something I've found useful this week and maybe it will be useful to you, too.)

p.s. You would have thought I hit my head harder when I fell because right after this, when we decided to cool off in the pool at the YMCA, I didn't read the signs that indicated the first lane was only two feet deep and jumped knees first, compressing like a dropped doll into the plaster bottom. Then we ran into a lady that used to substitute teach at my old school along with our friendly local surf shop owner, both standing next to each other at swim lessons. Because I hadn't met either of their significant others in person, I blurted out to her "Wait, are you his wife?" too excited about the possible coincidence. But no. No, she was not his wife. Just a blushing version of the teacher who used to give art lessons to my old students. I guess I can't be so hard on people who keep bothering me with the "baby question" anymore. Saying the wrong thing is easy.

    1. This weird "high" comes over me when I'm skateboarding. It's almost like the falls barely hurt until days later. Then I start looking up mouth guards on the internet and worrying about the next fall.

  2. I have been in your place with the asking of funny questions, but not with the skateboarding. Any serious injuries from the fall? You look ok. Skateboarding looks quite scary, but also a little exciting.

    1. So far, no serious injuries! (thank God) Although, I keep being like, "why is my left arm so sore...oh yeah"

  3. Ummm... ouch! That looks like it hurt. And big LOL when I read about the pool incident. I am like that sometimes... asking the awkward questions.

    1. haha, I was laughing about it too, although I was putting my hand to my head at the same time. Ugh. Wish that wouldn't happen, but at least I'm not alone? :)

  5. OW! Honey, you actually bounced, are you okay? The pool thing was rather scary too. Please be careful! I wouldn't worry about what you said, I'm sure they didn't mind. In the general scheme of feet in mouth, that's really only a 1 out of 10, if that. This from someone who knows about these things. Hope you and Scott have a lovely weekend. CJ xx
