9 Random Pictures, 9 Random Thoughts

it was windy (the warm kind) the day of Casey and Jenny's wedding
I've left these polaroids on this little table since Scott's cousin Brittany's wedding; it's nice to remember something so happy when we can
Scott makes dinner the day I work far from home (I think the taste of kale is growing on him. I like to think I knew it would). This is this soup with the addition of kale.
I love when it's hot out and a cold glass sweats in the sun
I got a new sponsor, Dakine! The dad of one of the girls I coach in surfing works for them. He checked out the site. He thought you guys would like Dakine, too.
tail slide, that I'm working on. I need to grab rail. Next time. Next time.
I found my mom and dad in a hammock.
I have a poem in the current issue of Women's Surf Style Magazine. I kinda cringe when I read it because it reminds me of something for kids, rather than literature, but that was a fun memory; me and that lady bug surfing
summer will be especially special for you this year, I predict.

9 random thoughts (although, the above were also pretty random)
1. It's times like these when the business of summer is ramping up that I wish it had been winter a little more; cold, quiet, calm. I know. I know. The grass is always greener.
2. Sometimes when I'm day dreaming, I picture my college friends living in San Diego and taking skateboarding lessons with me. I picture them rolling down a four foot transition looking so stoked. It always makes me happy :)
3. Sometimes I wonder if I'm selfless enough to be a parent.
4. The bathroom at my work always smells like Christmas, which is better than other things...
5. Sometimes I can never decide if cussing sounds good or rude.
6. My teachers always told my mom I had bad handwriting. I'm sure she tried to correct it, but in the end, she just let me take my course.
7. I like the taste of beer sometimes, but not even sort of as much as lemonade or Coca Cola which I drink nearly never.
8. The other night I thought Scott called me a drone, when he really called me darlin'.
9. 'Older Sister' is so much of my identity.

Care to share any random thoughts?

  1. I'm currently living in Austin, TX which I love to pieces. But my boyfriend and I met in the Bay Area a few years ago (he's from there) and lately I just want to go back to California for a visit so bad! I'm planning a solo trip to LA and then the two of us will meet up in the Bay Area afterwards I think (his brother gets married in September). I'm just craving that California air!

Love the random thoughts, girl! :)

    1. This sounds like a good idea to me. Doooo it :) I'd like to visit Austin again someday. I only spent one night there and we drove from New Orleans, so our energy wasn't at its peak. Thank you for the note, Grace.

  2. Love the random thoughts and the photo of your parents is priceless. They look like they have an awesome personality and energy. I need to find that poem you wrote. And the photos with it are perfect.

    1. Thank you Maria. I like that photo of them too, hopefully they do to or they're gonna make me take it down (hah). Here's the poem when it was on the site: http://www.thetaleofamermaid.com/2013/03/a-ladybug-went-surfing-with-me.html

  3. I wish it would stop raining. I'm off to the seaside on Friday with my mum. I'm hungry. My nails need re-painting. I love that photo of your parents; they look like teenagers who've been caught doing something they shouldn't! Great post, as usual, Devon xx

    1. Thanks Niken! It's still crazy to me that we can connect with each other even though we are both so physically far apart. The internet is *far out* :)

  6. New sponsorship - that's awesome!!!!

I haven't been by in a while - with purchasing a new home and moving life has been INSANE! It looks like you're doing amazing and well.

PS I do think you'd be selfless enough for a baby, it just might take time. I'm only now seriously considering becoming a mom, and I'm going to be 38 this year!!! EEK!

    1. NEW HOME!? Yahoo! Hooray! That will definitely add a few things to your to do list, won't it? Congrats Kelly. That's so cool. And thank you for the sweet words about parenting. I'm sure you'll be a fantastic mother too.

  7. Great pictures!! I still need to try kale:) Congrats on your poem being featured in the magazine! That is awesome! And you would make a stellar mom. I think it's easy to be selfish now, but when you have another little being to take care of, that selflessness would kick in. At least that's what I'm assuming, since I also think I'm too selfish to have a baby:)

    1. Try it! Try it! At least a few times, because then it just might grow on you too :). I hope you're right about the selflessness. I think you are. I think you'd be such a great mom Kari (and your kid(s) would dress so cute ;)

  9. New sponsorship + poem published? Congratulations, that's so exciting!!

Those photos make me long for summer so badly. I'm in Scotland where most days are 55F lately (with rain). Yesterday someone ate an orange and for a second I actually thought "can't believe it's so close to Christmas already". I grew up in a place where summers are hot; I miss seeing blue skies or ripe tomatoes and peaches so badly..

    1. Hi Adeline, I think I called you Advah, based on your profile name. But then I realized that was not your real name :). Anyways, Scotland! How unique. I've never been, but I'd like to go. I'm going to a Scottish wedding this weekend. At least, there will be kilts. I can see what you mean about missing the sun and fruit. Maybe there will be a day when all of a sudden, it feels like summer for you in Scotland. We don't get much winter around here, and sometimes I like a little cloud cover, but we always get at least a few days where it feels exactly, undeniably like winter. Anyways, sending you sun!

    2. Sorry, I rarely use my profile to comment and realised the other day it still had my old nickname, hence the confusion! Scotland is beautiful, but the weather is ..interesting. A Scottish wedding sounds so fun! It's funny how quickly you get used to seeing guys wearing kilts here. :) And thank you for the sun, until it gets here I'll keep enjoying summer through your sunny photos! x

  12. I know about wanting winter to last a little longer - I wasn't ready for it to end this year. But I'm loving summer though. Of course, our summer is probably more like your winter... Love the shot of your mum and dad in the hammock, and the glasses in your garden look very inviting. I'd like to sit there in the sun for a while and sip a drink and chat to you about life and love and how I know you'll always be selfless when you need to be. Have a good weekend Devon, CJ xx
