This is an Adventure

I've been anxious for this trip, more than I've been for any trip I've done before, but I think this is a good thing. Because isn't one of the main purposes of traveling to put yourself outside of your comfort zone; to try things you haven't before and reveal parts of your character you may have only been slightly aware of, if at all? I like to think so. I like to believe traveling is as much about personal discovery as it is for exploration and exposure.
I have some traveling hopes for Scott and myself as we embark on this new journey:
  • I hope I become more flexible (Scott doesn't need to work on this). I want to respond calmly and enthusiastically (this is a bit of a stretch) to sudden changes of plans, impromptu guests and accommodations.
  • I hope Scott and I spend time picking each other's brains on deeper levels and getting to know each other even more.
  • I hope that we gain confidence from this trip. Driving long distances, going new places and meeting new people will hopefully give us new courage.
As I packed, I kept anxiously wondering absolute absurdities such as "What if there's a luau party at Dave's in North Carolina and I didn't pack my Hawaiian dress?", " I think I'm really going to need my retainers" (which I haven't worn in three months) and more serious things like "What if we get in an accident?"
I have already mentioned my concerns about this trip, but there are many things I am really excited about. I am looking forward to smelling different air and to warm nights (it's virtually never warm at night on the West coast). I can't wait to see some of the places my family members and friends call home and to witness two weddings of loved ones. I'm excited to become a more experienced driver. Mostly, I'm happy we will get to make so many new stories together.
I do plan to blog on this trip. Another hope I have is that this adventure really inspires me as a writer. I may or may not have consistent internet access, so if you write to me and I don't respond, just know, I'm not ignoring you. I'm just spending time with Scott and trying to learn more about myself and this crazy world. I knew you'd understand.
