Barbecued Tofu

Summer is around the corner. I love a good barbecue almost as much as I love a good summer south swell, but I don't want to miss out on barbecues now that I'm a vegetarian. Over the past few months we have been learning how to barbecue tofu. It is really very easy! Here's how we've done it...
2 packages of extra/super firm organic tofu
teriyaki sauce/marinade of your choice

Press your tofu before cooking it (place between a clean kitchen towel and press down to soak up excess water). Marinate the tofu for at least 30 minutes before grilling in teriyaki sauce or a marinade of your choice. I like to marinate my tofu in a zip lock bag in the refrigerator for around two hours. Preheat the barbecue to a medium heat. It works best to grill the tofu on a vegetable grill pan or on bamboo skewers.  If you use the grill pan, make sure to lightly spray it with oil to prevent sticking. Grill for six-eight minutes on each side.

Easy right?

We had it with barbecued pineapple, salad and parmesan risotto
What are your plans this memorial weekend?
I'm making tofu and will hopefully do lots of surfing!

  1. the girl at work that sits next to me had BBQ'd tofu in her lunch yesterday and it looked so yummy! i'll have to use a grill pan but i'm sure it will be just as tasty! have a good weekend, sweets! xx

  2. I love BBQ's and this looks so yummy! great idea for summer time!!

  3. Mmmm, this sounds so good! As a vegetarian, I never tire of learning new ways to eat tofu.

  4. I love the new banner! And maybe you'll have to make this tofu recipe for me when I get home. I'm so sad you didn't like any of the movies! I doubt the ones I saw here will be out in theaters soon, but even so, I don't think I'd recommend any of them to you. They're all quite depressing. I'll try and think of something you should watch. What are you in the mood for? Love you

  5. This sounds absolutely amazing! I have a great sauce recipe that my wife uses on tofu that you'd love. I'll have to send it to you. I don't think I thanked you for following me on twitter. I also wanted to mention just how jealous I am of the fact that you get to ride waves each an every day. I was born around the water on the West Coast of Vancouver and miss all the time spent on the beach and in the water!

  6. I recently say "The Vow" and liked it. Nothing too mind-blowing, but definitely entertaining/cute. I must say I'm surprised you didn't like "Iron Lady" because I loved it, though I'm a huge politics buff.

I love the new banner! Sometimes a change in design can be refreshing.

Thanks so much for the tips on barbecuing tofu. I'm newly vegetarian and looking forward to trying out some of your recipes. Did you and Scott go veg together?

  7. @Julia D. I've wanted to see "The Vow", but I don't think Scott will go for it ;). I guess I could have say I liked Iron Lady, but I just thought it was kind of a bummer seeing her get old. I think it is a phase of life I am a little nervous about so maybe I was extra sensitive about it.

Stoked you will get some use out of the recipe! Scott isn't a full vegetarian, as he eats fish and meat occasionally when we go out to eat, but he really enjoys vegetarian food and eats it when we eat at home (which is most of the time). He is very supportive of my choice, though, and tries not to eat meat much.

  8. We have a unique book on plant based meals made on a barbeque grill that people are just loving. --GRILLS GONE VEGAN-- I thought you may want to add it or review it on your site. For those who need to reduce meat, it is possible to eat healthy and not give up the mouth watering flavors of grilled food. A digital sampler is available for review, and also a hard copy. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you, Mary Ellen,

I love to hear from you! I try to reply within the comment form.
